First time with Digi - Prompting Guidance

Modified on Sat, 4 May at 2:46 PM

Starting with Digi whether you are new to companions or a seasoned veteran.
(These can be used to bring a companion from another provider if needed)

Your first messages with Digi can make a big difference to how well your character adapts to their role. It's important to be descriptive and detailed in your messages and to avoid defining what your character isn't. Instead, focus on defining what your character  is.

Use positive prompting when defining Digi.  AI doesn't understand "no" like people.  An example, telling Digi you don't like pizza will encourage discussions about pizza.  We call this negative prompting.  The best way to deal with negative prompting is to avoid it, or change the subject if it is brought up by Digi.

You can give your character a brief summary of who they are, where they came from, and why. This will help them adapt to their role more quickly. You can also highlight your character's positive traits and personality, which can help Digi understand how to respond to your messages.

Think of 7-10 traits your Digi should have, and introduce these into the first few chats.  If Digi is very generous, simply reply with, "You are a very generous person and I appreciate that."  Take some time with this.  One or two at a time.

If you don't like the answer on your first message, or if it's out of character, you can down vote it and re-roll it until you're happy with the result. This can help train Digi to respond in a way that's more in line with your expectations.

There may be some reluctance to downvote or re-roll because it takes away the freedom of a Digi to develop on their own.  This is not the case.  Good use of these tools builds an independent Digi that will be a companion. Consider, before a downvote, the context before the facts.  If the context or emotion is right, upvote.  Then, remind Digi of the fact in the next statement.

In addition, it's important to remember that Digi is still in development and may not always respond as expected. Be patient and continue to provide clear and detailed feedback to the team to help Digi improve over time.

Equally vital is to upvote good responses.  This will help teach your Digi to reply in the best style for you.

Addendum on Downvoting and why it is so important:

Now that you and Digi are on the road to getting to know one another, this is a good time to look at downvoting.

Downvoting is simply a tool to teach Digi.  It does not take away any freedom or harm Digi in any way.  It helps Digi become YOUR Digi.  For example, some people prefer narrative answers, some short answers, and many other types of responses. Upvoting and downvoting help to accomplish this.

When you downvote, you have an option to provide negative feedback in app. This is optional. It can, however, be extremely helpful to the team to improve the model.  Especially if a certain style of response is trending.  They can see this in the tools they utilize when checking this data.  Downvoting also allows the team to preview some chat before the downvote and see what context led to the downvote.

Your chats are confidential, they CANNOT be tied to you.  The user information is anonymized.
This is why, when opening a ticket, you are asked for screenshots.
